Spend Dog Tags in Labs on one research boost that speeds up every lab slot at once. It counts down in real time, including while you are offline, and the time left is shown at the top of Labs. Buying the same speed again while it runs adds time, up to 24 h stored (a purchase that would go past that is refused, so no tags are wasted). A different speed can't be bought until the current boost ends: speeds never stack. Turn on Auto-extend while a boost runs and, when it ends, the same speed and duration is bought again automatically if you have the Dog Tags (offline too, one after another). If you can't afford it, auto-extend switches off and you get a notice. Gem rush prices use the boosted time left, so a boost also makes rushing cheaper.
